Edgar House

Under Construction
Sarver, PA
2010

HE wants to live on the top of this wooded Sarver hill. SHE wants to live modestly. The solution: Design a home that, similar to a Mt. Washington view platform, focuses on the view, rather than on itself.

This is a home whose visual richness is progressively revealed. A roof garden mirrors the leaves of the trees. Guests may descend into the rooftop earth to enter the house through what may be the world's first living door! Guests will be expecting a cave experience, but will be rewarded with unobstructed exterior views.

From below, it becomes clear that the roof floats above open living space. The automobile entry is deliberately unassuming. The interior plan is simple and open, leading to an interior that is filled with natural light at all times of the day.

The kitchen is the project's conceptual and geographic center. The front entry, the living room, the greenhouse, the garage, and the deck are only steps away.

And it's green: Our new elliptical house features geothermal wells, radiant floors, recycled newspaper insulation, and insulated concrete foundations. This project is currently under construction.
